He doesn't seems knowledgeble on cars... but he tries to answer in the way he can... Yeah for guys like us... woulda have been a piece of cake to find out. In his response, he said he took them off 540i. Hey, if it is cheap, then kudos for who won it.

Huh, I was under the impression that the E39 M5 wheels only came in 18" sizes, but the do appear to be genuine BMW with the M badges and everything.

I'm gonna see if I can get in touch with him to check the wheels out in person. Any markings I should look for to clue me in as to who made these? Because I was under the impression those wheels only came in an 18x8 on the M5.

The offset would have to be stamped on there somewhere, right?

I'm pretty sure that genuine M5 wheels have a bit of a dish on the back where as the front doesn't. these don't appear to have any and like already said, i thought they only came in 18's. could easily be wrong though...

Most replicas come with M badges anyway. They could be either made in Italy, Taiwan or China. Ask for a clear closeup picture inside the wheel. That should tell you whether they're original or not. If you don't get it... forget it. Buying used wheels off the net is a case of... "You pay your money and you take your chances!"

Most likely to be replica... but then again... how much does it cost to get a replica set? You probably can't find any under $600 new a set..

I went and looked at them. They are replicas. They are 17x7.5. The little m badge is a sticker, and it's not on quite straight on a couple of them...lol. There is some paint fade, although they might be good candidates for some custome refinishing. Perhaps a black powdercoat on the wheel and polish the lip.

The offset is ET20. They look straight, and felt fairly light.

I'm trying to decide if they'd be worth my trouble if I could get them for less than $200... since I don't have to have them shipped. I would want to refinish them though, and after it's all said and done I could've spent all the money on a nicer set of wheels.

$270 Ended... Shadow Chrome does look kinda faded... I got a set of 16 myself.

definately replicas... the original chrome shadow wheels are DARK, you can spot them from a mile away..

i've never seen a staggered (correct term?) set of replicas... by that i mean 8" width at the front and 9" at the back.. primarly because 9" is too tight a fit under the lip of most BMWs, and it goes past the limits of most insurance companies!

not that there's anything wrong with replicas, considering the price

Did u buy it?

nope. I would've done it for $200 maybe (I'm cheap :D ), but I knew people would bid higher than that.

As soon as I rid myself and get a return on the damn ET38 racing dynamics I ended up with AND get my tax return, I'm gonna settle on something.

I'm thinking about these ASA R1's in a 17x8 (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/DisplayWheel.jsp?wheelMake=ASA&wheelModel=AR1&wheelFinish=Black+w%2FMach+Lip). How do you think they'd look on Green 540 with dark tinting? (the website way to look at it sucks for certain wheels)

Mmm... not spectacular in style... I think it is almost like regular cross-spokes of BMW E46 wheels...

I have a set of BMW 7 spokes 3 pieces for sale... however pricy... this ebay link is an example of what I have... I am not that seller...

These are the hottest wheels to put on our E34 in my opinion.

not too frickin' shabby, do you know how much they weigh? Those are definitely out of my price range though.

they are light... I haven't had them dismounted yet. I am not asking $2000 for those... more like $1200 or so.
