Is the 5.4L of say a 96 850i block swapable with the 5.0L v12 head of say a 91 850i? Is the larger block designed different so that the acessories would not be compatible between the 5L block and the 5.4L block.
Theres no 8 series forum to ask, but I figured the 7s are the next closest thing.

There are some 8 series boards on the net:

I have the 5.0 M70 engine, but I am not sure if this is identical to the 5.4 Liter engine of the E32. Actually I belive it is a 5.6 Liter engine and called S70 engine. Probably the Motronic's are different. Sizewise should be no problem.
General Info are also here

The 5.6L S70 engine is esentially the M8 engine, it bears the M logo and puts out substantially more power (about 370 something hp). The real M 48 valve V12 never saw production. They made a 5.4L v12 right after they ceased production of the 5.6L 850csi that had 322hp. The 5.4L is substantially less expensive.
I've seen the other boards, but I didn't want to go create a membership, and I was just wondering if anyone here knew.

Good site, thanks. Looks like knock sensor may be an issue since the 5.4L is running 10 to 1 compression and the 5L runs 8.8 to 1.
