Howdy all, new member, 2nd bimmer, new problem... I just purchased my new/old 91' 130,000K 535i manual 1 owner CCA member, all records since new. The car has been dealer serviced all its life (yes, professionally neglected!)
The only new parts I detected when giving my own once over before purchase was a new starter and solenoid. 3 weeks into ownership, my wife drove home from work pulled into the driveway and the car died with a "fizzle under the hood". The starter is fried. My guess is that the starter remained engaged for the trip home and gave out in the driveway. Possibly the connections to the solenoid were poorly installed and simply too close together causing the solenoid to remain engaged after the initial ignition causing an arc? Before installing another set, I'd like to know if anybody has experienced something similar. Is there a pesky ignition switch problem out there on the M30 I should be aware of?
Much thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!
