View Full Version : What is this on my header tank ?

Still finding out about this car .... On my header tank there is a small device embedded, (arrowed on pic) I don't know what it is.
Does someone out there know ?

looks like some sort of hose clamp thing.

That's the high tech device known as a tube clamp.
Most factory clamps are a crimped metal clip. Not the best design, and I'm sad to say that I've had to reuse one. The one in the picture holds the coolant return line. I had to replace that line when it cracked three months ago. If you follow the thing down the side of the firewall to the radiator, you'll probably come across two more of those metal clamps (one should be behind the plastic valence that has the alternator cooling vent hole in it - other is up by the heating valves, FWIW). They're also used on the fuel and vacuum lines.

OK that makes sense now I look further ... but not seen this type before ... at first I thought it may be some kind of check valve in the overflow/vent
