Microfilter on 1990 e34?

Can anyone verify if there is a microfilter on a 1990 e34 HVAC system? I have heard confilcting info.

I have a 1990 535i, 5-sp, production date 7/89.

Fritz was built 10/89 and doesn't have one. Think they're only after ~ MY 91.
