Odd engine problem came and went

1990 525i M20 engine. Made a 350 mile Interstate Highway trip, cruise set at 75. Everythings fine until 5 blocks from home, it starts to die out and buck. Limped home, parked. Restarted 10 minutes later and ran fine and has for a week since. Temp always read normal, oil level fine, coolant level fine. Any ideas as to what could have caused this?
