Did the button fall off, or did the mirror just pop off of the button? If the button fell off of the windshield, just get a glue kit from the local autozone or wal*mark or whatever.

I've only *pulled* mine off (to install an autodimmer), so I didn't have to stick the old one back on; I believe the procedure was something like sticking it on at an angle and then twisting it back into position -- someone else who's actually done it before can probably tell you.

Kinda awkward, but as Lowell stated, you need to position the mirror at an angle and then turn it while pushing. May take a few tries. I remember the first time I had to do this and it wasn't exactly easy.

Good Luck,

Oh...that's easy - just get an adhesive kit. ~ $5 from an auto parts place.

Or, spend ~ $25 on eBay and pick up a used autodimmer, universal mount, and install that :) It's a great upgrade - I greatly appreciate mine.

Adhesive kit, is that a special glue for the window?

for me I had this problem when I bought my car, it was glued with silicon rubber!! I removed it and bought the black Epoxy mixture ( A-B ) mixed it in the morning and glued the metal base only and parked it in the sun.
in the afternoon it was all done. that was year 2003. still working. some people might tell you about the Metal-Glass seal. it workes but I never tested it. hope this would help.

Yup - it's actually two parts -- a glue and an activator. You clean both surfaces (sounds like you've done the windshield part already), put the glue on the button...let it sit on there for about two minutes, then hit it with a drop of activator and immediately stick it on the windshield. You have to hold it there for about a minute to set (obviously, much more difficult to do if you leave the mirror on the button....but possible) and then wait another 15 min or so for it to harden up. After that, it's quite difficult to get off...the glue bond may even be stronger than the glass itself (as was the case on my car -- in removing the old button, I took a small chunk out of my windshield ;) )...But anyway, that sucker's *not* coming off for a long time, so be sure to place it (generally) in the right spot.

Seriously....I'd just buy an autodimmer while it's convenient :)
