Control, thrust and sway bar links for $1000??

Not new to repairs, but am new to BMWs. Is this a fair price for a 95 540? Shop gets good recs from the locals here in Chicago.

and sway bar links are around $20 ea. The indy I use will let me supply the parts and will install the both arms for $160.00, not sure on links. Is an alignment included? That would be another $80 $1000 sounds high but if they are suppling the parts that might be right in range. Make sure they are Lemforder w/750i bushings.

we shipped a 1953 mgtd to CT a few years ago that we put into driving condition for a guy that sold it after sitting for 10-15 years, it was surprisingly reasonable. he could allways drive down here for mardi gras, watch some tittys, drink some beer, and get the front end fixed and come out cheep, compared to that

that is about the going rate if you don't do it yourself. I have seen higher quotes for the same repair.
The book on owning one of these cars is they are quite expensive to operate if you don't do your own repairs because of their age and nameplate.
That's what this board is about, a self help group for the hopelessly possessed.

There a few Chicago guys on the board here that can give you some places to go get work done.......will give you a better rate than that, and probably do better work too! Some you can buy your own parts from BMA (888) 262-3911 (great prices) and bring them to the shop for installation.

along the same lines...why not just order the parts from BMA or Racing King and meet over at one of the board members houses in the area and install them. Can barter a good price if you don't feel like doing the wrenching...someone may want to do the work for a little spending money...share the wealth with the community...we always need new parts :-) if not a nice steak dinner for their family...and save you a few hundred bucks in the process. The job will probably be performed with more care than at an independent...many of us have done this job and know it pretty well.

I would have offered up originally, but I don't know what rnrn's timeline is. I will be replacing control arm bushings only (M5) soon, and beefing up the front sway bar links.............dunno when I will find a break between now and April 15th though. Gotta MAKE time for these things now. Was also going to try to get in a tranny fluid change, etc etc.

find time?...heck, its a 4 hour job....could do it between midnight and 4 am...lol.
$200 would come in handy to do all that other stuff you mentioned.
