BMW CCA did an event with BMW NA down in Detroit at Comerica Park ( Read New Tiger Stadium. About 45 cars showed up, I was the only e34 in the whole bunch. Some of the things on the new e90 that while a tech acheivement, seems to take driving out of the driver and puts it in the car.
-No temp gauge. Car uses an electric water pump, doesn't have a t stat in it. Which means that there is no gradual "hey you have a problem with the cooling system" When that water pump goes - you are screwed.
-No dipstick for engine oil. Its all done by a sensor and a computer. Car will shut itself down if the oil level gets low enough.
-ABS/DSC will apply the brakes enough to warm up the brake pads when its raining out as you drive.
-All the cars have run flat tires. no spare, jack or lug nut wrench.
-Car is less Bangle-ized, but I still think looks goofy. The inside looks more like a Buick than it does a BMW.
