I saw the instructions on how to fix a crooked seat. The question I have before I start that project is this. I'm able to get the seat to work correctly. What happens is when I lean back in the seat you hear a sound like a reel unwinding and then the seat goes crooked. Is this a problem anyone has had? If so please share your remedy. Or is this a symptom caused by a bad cable that can be solved by following the procedure in the archives.
Check with a salvage yard or Ebay for a used gearbox, they go for about $20 to $30. They're somewhat scarce so you may have to beat the bushes.
Remove the cover to make sure the donor gearbox has good gears. The gearboxes and internal nylon gears are unique right & left and cannot be interchanged, but you can swap left to left & right to right with a driver or passenger seat. You can only use an e32 or e34 gearbox.

It's been over a year since I bought one from him, don't know if this is still a valid e-mail address or if he still has any but worth a shot.
