I am in need of a 5 series repair manual. Who makes the most detailed one and where is a good place to get it?

I'd say the bentley manual... available at www.bmaparts.com (http://www.bmaparts.com) for about 50 bucks


you could also buy a computer and have it connected to the internet out where you work on your car.... I mean the internet has just about all the answers (with less pictures, and diagrams of the work you hafta do)

it is nice to have the printed detailed instructions in front of you! So don't always rely on the internet.

I carry my bentley around with me, with a small assortment of tools.... just in case I break down in the middle of no where, I will be able to at least attempt some kind of educated repair.

I keep my Bentley's in the trunk most of the time. Right now it's on a bookshelf because, sometimes...I just like to read it.

mine says its "specifically designed to cover only those models built for sale in the United States" but maybe theres one out there for uk spec.. but anyway its 10000000x better than a haynes or chiltons even if its not uk spec

No Bob, it does not cover U.K. cars and any other cars outside the U.S.
In your case there are a bit more probs as you have RHD. I know it from the E32 model. For example to get out the microfilter in a RHD is very difficult and it is split in 2 halfs, to get out out because the steering wheel column is in they way.
I had the same problem here in Japan with a friends car. A 750iL E32. He bought a cat from the U.S. And there was a temp feeler at the rear of the cat which apparently no one ever has seen. Bentley did not say anything, and nobody on any other board here on the 7 board, in Germany or US could tell me if this has some influence on the DME (cold/warm temp info to the ECU). The car was running bad.

Finally, after 2 weeks checking and testing we found out that the 2nd fuel pump was not working, the used replacement pump we bought in Japan was also bust and only the 3rd fuel pump worked.
This sensor for example is only installed on Japan spec. cars to sensor the heat and it gives alarm on the CC if a certain temp is exceeded, but that is all, no influence on the engine management.

But I would not miss the Bentley. Enough info there. Thge 32 manual has about 1000 pages, all torques, specifications for checking voltages, Ohm etc.
It is worth the money.
