View Full Version : Anyone have a fan clutch?
That'll work on a 1989 535i? Previous owner installed some crappy aftermarket clutch that seems to work ALL the time.

Check eBay - get a sachs for $60 or call BMA and pay ~ $70+

none of the ones on ebay are the right part number. BMA wants $102?

I think p/n is *kinda* arbitrary in this case. All you need is something that will match the fan blade (3 or 4 hex bolts?). The mounting on the water pump, I believe, is universal across models of the era.
If you call Patrick, he'll likely cut you a much better price. best, whit

p.s. what did the PO put on?

Not even a clue, but the nut that screws onto the water pump is about 3/4 long. I didn't even have to use a special wrench, just used a normal old open end wrench! I know this can't be good on the waterpump bearings, having it stick out 1/2" futher than it was designed to. I know it definitely wasn't a sachs or behr.
just ran across this one on ebay.. claims to be sachs..

Yes, I already checked ebay. I HAVE been buying bmw parts for some time now :p
Anyways, that clutch is different than the one from the M30, M50, etc. It puts the fan to close to the radiator (at least that is what I've read.)
