----EDIT----
I had the wires reversed, tried after posting and it works like a charm. :p
I decided that I'm tired of most of my CD's and enjoy listening to Sirius at home on Dish therefore I got a car kit for my sportster.
I didn't want to contantly have something plugged into the ashtray. I'm going to do a clean install with a VMS mount from pro-fit-intl.com and no wires visible.
Here's my problem, I took the cigarette lighter plug wire and clipped the lighter connector off. I seperated the two wires running from the plug and spliced one (the totally black one) into the red wire on the stereo harness...the one that gets energised on ignition. I spliced the other wire (white and black) onto the black wire of my harness for the ground connection. I hooked everything up and get power fine to my stereo but sirius is dead.
Did I miss a fundemental step, is the cigarette lighter plug some kind of conductor/transistor?
