Can't seem to get a screen print but here's the detail I think you need.
Recall campain No 90v-016 - seat belt buckles.
Series - E34
Problem with the buckle release...
Model ranges on the 535 are:
BF0 8000 to BF0 9331 (stick)
BF6 1000 to BF6 4213 (automatic)
These are the last 7 VIN digits.
Hope this helps...

Thanks, Bro, for checking.
Earlier today, I called BMW of Seattle and Fife BMW and was told that my VIN showed no such recall. (It's number is BF6 44--, so its manufacture came shortly after the sequence of recalled cars. BMW of Seattle quoted $350 for parts + labor.
Anyway, this eve I disassembled the buckle and think I have the problem fixed with epoxy: One of the plastic guide springs that align the seat belt tongue for insertion into the buckle had broken, and the bits fell into the buckle, jamming it. Krazy glued the bits back into proper position, then reinforced them with JB Weld. These plastic guilde springs will no longer be springy (not really necessary), but they'll still guide and align the tonge during insertion into the buckle clasp. The mechanical part of the buckle is still fully functional & strong, so there's not safety issue. Cost: 30 mins. tinkering and two dabs of JB Weld. We'll see how she holds up, but I'll bet this fix is many times stronger and more durable than the original setup.
For others who've had jammed seatbelt buckles: Inspection of the innards tells me you probably had the same broken-plastic-bits-jam-the-works problem, as the metal mechanicals in the buckle look to be bulletproof.
