$1.73/gal. 93 octane
Cincinnati Ohio - Everyone here is about the same for gas prices.
BTW - I see that not everyone uses premium gas. What is the lowest acceptable octane rating for the M60 motor?I have always used 93 except for when I was in Missouri. There was only 91 available. Can you run 89 octane on a nikasil motor safely?

Here in Atlanta, an anti-pollution ordinance was passed requiring that all gasoline sold be under 90ppm sulfur. That's the only reason I don't use BP 30ppm 93 on my Nikasil M60. My gas cap says to use 89 minimum, so that's what I use.

Run that argument past me again?.
Knowing that a high sulpher content is detrimental to nikasil.....I know what I would use

source of energy at all... oil is the source of the energy that the internal combustion engine utilizes.. And its not a very efficient means of producing power contrary to what you say... the best gasoline internal combustion engines are only about 32% efficient and diesel does only a little better. These are not even engines that you're seeing in production either. And since worldwide oil production peaked about 3 years ago we have now used up 50% of all the worlds available and projected supplies, this is with worldwide demand increasing each year. So as you can see here (http://www.peakoil.net/Publications/International-Summer-School_Salzburg_2002.pdf)
we are on the downward slope of oil production and its a rather drastic curve. So in the near future 10 to 20 years that is you'll get to see more use of efficient powerplants such as electric motors etc. Take not of section 7.2

Per US gallon, in Lancashire UK. And if you think that is bad...generic store brand, mineral engine oil runs anywhere from $9-11 per quart. You really don't want to know how much Mobil 1 goes for.

Yup, but I do tend to find myself slipping into 5th gear at just 30 MPH. Probably doesn't help the MPGs, but I can't help myself!.

I wonder how many fewer monster SUVs/pick-ups would be on the roads here if it cost $200 to fill the tank every week.

You've asked a couple of times George, so here you go.
Here in Atlanta, I pay whatever Shell or Chevron charge for 93 octane, I think somewhere around $1.80. I figure I would pay as much as $4.00 without any real concern. I'm not rich, but I don't put that many miles on my car (if I did, I might have a car with 4 cylinders like a nice peppy twin-cam Saturn 5-speed).
I have a dog I have to pick up after, and I would be interested in some sort of system that converts biowaste to fuel. I could keep mine and my wife's biowaste too if it wouldn't be a problem for the system to convert these three different biowastes to energy for my vehicle to run. I really should start composting too, but my yard is pretty small and the neighbors might complain when the racoons and possibly coyotes come around. Then again, some of them are radical lesbians and they might actually enjoy the wildlife until someone got rabies or someone's small dog disappeared (mine is a 90-pound lab/greyhound mix, so I'm not worried. In fact, his name is "Bigsby").
Until the (US) government mandates better mileage and provides real incentive for alternative fuels and vehicles, nothing is going to change and we will be at the mercy of big oil. I hear people can actually vote for a new government every few years, but I think a lot of us are too busy watching reality shows to care about reality. I hate to think about what my grandchilren's grandchildren will face, but then again I'm magically still an optimist so maybe someone will breed humans who focus on making the world a better place for all instead of just for themselves.
In other words, say gas was free. What would you do with the money you saved: add more mods to your car; get a nicer, faster car; get an electric/ hybrid car; or contribute to an environmental group or political candidate?
I don't really have any doubts about how most would anwer this; it is a BMW board after all.

Thank GOD its only going into the VW. I drive an '89 VW Golf around most everywhere. Its pretty good on the gas milage, i get about 33-35mpg most of the time. and i can feed it piss and it still runs. I think its going to take a lot more than rising gas prices to get people to change to alternate energy. Look at cigarettes, they're what, almost $5 a pack in NYC and people still smoke.

have been for almost a year now. A whole lot of people switched to mail order when they went way up; that is hardly an option for gas!
