I think some of us here on the board probaly successfully installed the additional gauges (ie. Bat-Charge, Oil pressure, Oil Temp, etc) in his/her series-5/e34.

I just wonder...where did you guys put the gauges? Also, how did you do it?
Appreciate, if you can share w/ us here.

Thanks a ton...

They go great with my A pilar three time zone clock & barometer collection.

I put my guages on the A-Pillar, but I have also seen them go infront of the fhist lever. I think VDO has a kit that fits really well infront of the guage cluster and it is probably the cleanest look, and many people feel the A-pillar is a bit too ricey. Either way works well, I like the A-Pillar because of its ease to look at while your trying to concentrate on the road. Its all up too you, but im sure you could get really creative if you wanted to, but those are your two basic options

has some nice 2 inch gauges and bullet style pods that can fit nicely on the steering column at 11 & 2 O'clock.

Did this on my Rx2 & 7 before, and it was discreet but functional.

Could you pls share the picture w/ all of us here, who may be interested.
Thanks a ton for sharing the info...

(Well, I'm thinking about pulling a set of VDO-gauges out from my '89 Audi-90Q & put them on my '95 540i.)

Greetings!
I squeezed in four VDO gages on the front part of the console. I have a volt meter, automatic trans temp, oil temp and oil pressure. I fabricated an aluminum plate to replace the stock wood covered metal plate and angled it upwards to fill in the open front part of the console. I drilled out 4 holes and covered it with black vinyl. The contact cement I used on the vinyl is starting to let go a little bit after two years. I wish I could do something with carbon fiber instead of the vinyl.
The only draw back is I have to take my eyes off the road to read them.
At night the display looks pretty nice though. If you want I could take some pix and try to post them or email them to you.

I know people are against digital gauges, but the alpina add on is just soooo hot...

I'm afraid to call and ask how much.

No, no.........he's still around somewhere. Stuck up that Lighthouse I'll bet. :p

But even though Gordon doesn't visit us as much as he used to, luckily for us his website still has the scoop on his VDO add-on. It looks sweet, especially if you were to build it as carefully as he did. And......huuuuuuuuh.....can any of us ever forget his 535 beauty?

Anyway....here's the write-up (http://vaxxine.com/gblawson/gauges/gauges.eht), compliments of Mr. Lawson.

Yes, Gordon had a profound effect on this board early on. He was the one who would have wax under his nails for the 7 or so months that you can drive in Canada. ;) Most "sparkley-est" E34 would have been his catagory in any car show. And he did some darn fine stuff on his web page that still inparts wisdom to others today. The VDO gauges are just some of his handywork.

So........Have you seen this man:

As with many of us, I believe his E34 is gone but not forgotten, as is he.

Last time I spoke with him was almost a year ago when I bought some stabilant 22 from him. That was the last I heard, no mention of his car or anything. That was one of the cleanest looking cars around...next to Juniors :D
