What tires would look good here?

Looking for some new tires for my '95 540. See link/picture. Currently have 225/60/15 on the original rims. Trying to get a more "sporty" look without replacing the rims. All opinions are welcomed.

Think the main problem there is the wheels, mate -- going to a 55 might do something, but it'd mess with your speedo/ODO and gas mileage. Personally, I'd rather just change the wheels.

TireRack does tire testing using 5-series BMWs, and their procedures and objectivity are well thought of by Consumer Reports and others.

Lee Clancy is one of the tire testers at TireRack, and his group recently did road and circuit testing of various brands. Reportedly, the Avon Tech M550 A/S was very well thought of, so you may want to talk to him about his observations. I bought a set and like them alot. Very good tire fora a very good price.

Still, no matter which tire you choose, it's always a compromise. Others may have different ideas, but a Google search for this tire will find favorable comments about this new tire from BMW and Mercedes enthusiasts.

I'm sorry, but from my experience, sidewall lettering/artwork doesn't change the look of a car. If you are wanting to know what tire looks good on that rim, I would say all 225/60-15 look the same, the few exceptions may be tires with a recessed bead, aka "sidewall flange" for protecting the rims....like a Falken ZE-512.

I guess I was hoping that changing the sidewall depth would help "the look". Thanks for the quick replies.

It would help... but not by much, and it would introduce lower gas mileage, and might even make your car look funny since there would be a larger gap between the tire and the wheel well.

You might wanna start with lower springs first, then go low profile on the tires with new rims.

Otherwise you may wind up looking like a raised E34 4x4
