Door locks

The drivers door lock on my 89 535, wont unlock off the key but will lock,The passenger side door lock works fine to unlock the car as does the boot lock ????? any idea's .....

You may need to synchronize the door lock...

Or it might be the little microswitch at the lock. I heard of people taking them apart and cleaning the connections and contacts with good luck.

unlock, Jeff should be right, the micro switch sensing the key is not working.

just try this first..i was having trouble with my drivers door lock in that the whole car would lock sometimes after unlocking it.In troubleshooting it, following javiers troubleshooting advice i lockeded and unlocked the car several times from the drivers side and passengers isde....and what the...no more trouble,i can only guess that pushing and pulling the knob to the fullextent of its travel(ather than the actuators travel)has somehow "cleaned" the actuators or switch contacts!!!!

how does one go about fixing this problem? how do i access the microswitches?

the microswitches are integral with the door motors or actuators....someone has a pic of a deconstructed actuator

What year is the car? This stuff only applies to cars made before MY 1992, afterwhich the lock actuator design changed on the E34.
