my end goal is to kill my bosses 97 m3 in a drag (at the moment it's not even close) real soon i am going to install about 80% of the suspension/brakes from a creamed 99 m coupe as soon as i get the wheels i want, then it will be ready for more power. as money comes together so will a bored and stroked 2.9-3.0 m20 with a steel crank, forged pistons 9.5-10 to 1 ratio, lumpy cam, extrude honed head/intake and possibly larger valves if it looks like it would be worth it (don't want to kill port velocity at low rpms) i've been toying with building a custom harness to use a m50s injection system on my m20, and have knock sensors, maf and fully sequencial injection instead of semi (it wouldn't cost me a hell of a lot but could be a pain in the ass) a educated guess on hp for the long block the way i want to build it is around 210-220 possibly i am not going as nasty as some i've seen that put out more, that power plus the 400 odd pound lighter then the m3 e30 should be cool, unless the boss gets over his wussy streak and gets me to supercharge his m3, then i am screwed. it would be easyer to buy the 95 m3 we just got in and hot rod that but i like e30s more then e36s

I say you buy the e36 M3, swap the motor into the e30.

Swap the m20 into the E36 to use as a daily driver.

...jeeze.

The stroked M20 sounds like a huge ass conversion, man. Might as well do the S50 instead, but I agree with you that the E30 is more appealing.

if i was going to swap in a different motor it would be a m30, i helped a friend build a hot m52 328 motor for his 89 325is and it's fast, i am just not that into the dohc motors, i like the m20 first and the m30 second i haven't had enough contact with real m motors to really say about them, i am not really impressed with the s14, it revs well but has no torque (and don't try to tell me otherwise unless you have a 2.5 or bigger evo motor to try as the 2.3 is varly gutless down low)

not really much more then a full rebuild, i allready have the hard to find part the forged steel crank from a 524td, my machinest friend with the m52 328 powered 325is e30 can get me a killer deal on the je pistons and he can do the block work, it's not like i am going to pay ireland engineering over $2k for their stroker kit, ill have around $1200 in the whole long block instead of $3-3500 and if i do my part it will be bulletproof
