Guys...
I've got the opportunity to pick up a set of Euro S38B38 headers for little change. I hear that they'll bolt directly up to an M30B35, but the biggest question on my mind is, are there any performance gains to be had?
EDIT: found a thread where Winfred says that they may have different sized ports. Anyone know for sure?
Any insight would be appreciated.
Best, whit
you mean S38 as in M5 S38? They won' t bold on as far a I know. They are 4 studs and the M30 are 2 stud per exhaust channel?!

im not sure if they are the same, but a small performance
gain is for sure, anything from 5bhp to 20bhp

S38B36/38 has a 4 bolt per exhaust port design with tiny tiny studs and nuts in a square flange.
The M30 is a low rpm torque monster and is well suited to the cast manifolds. You'd have to really open up the intake and ports to make much use of a header.

not that sure about that low rpm stuff, mine pulls like a mother when it gets on the cam at 3500 all the way to the limiter, id convert it to 5 speed if i didn't have the e30 to bang around in

I'm driving a 535i 5 speed right now and it feels like it runs out of wind at about 5500 rpm. I will say it does run to redline easily and smoothly but I think the 0-60 is quicker with a short shift, say 6000 max. The car has 240,000kms and a Conforti chip but is otherwise completely stock.
Of course I'm coming out of an S38 which comes on cam at ~4500 then pulls to 7250 feeling like about 3x the power of the M30. My favourite gear is 3rd - what a rush.
If I were to return to the M30 I'd really want to open up the exhaust - this car is wayyyyy too quiet.

PS: here's the 535. I've slapped on my Schnitzers for the time being:

PPS: here's why I'm driving the 535:

Huge maintenance cycle and search and destroy rust program. The fenders have to come off as there is paint damage on the inner part behind the splash shield. :(

yeah im more inclined to think that the M30's pull better higher
in the rev range, id like to drive one with a 250rpm higher limiter
The M30 is fun to drive, but is completely blown away by the S38. I had a Scnitzer original 535 based E34 with according to the documents that came with the car put out nearly 260 bhp. I had to give it all it got pushing it close to the limiter every time and still the M5 pulled away. On the highway though, the allmighty M5 was not so mighty any more as the Schnitzer smelled it' s but close to 155 and killed it when cornering ( height adjustables from H&R).
