Blower doesn't work on speeds 1 to 3, only on 4 - 1994 540i

My blower doesn't work on speeds 1 to 3, only works on 4 high speed position. Any help with troubleshooting would be appreciated.

sword resistor is probably failed, or, if yours doesn't have the sword then it will be the resistor pack.

My car is a 1994 540i V8. I thought the sword was only in early 1990 vehicles?

here is a link to a post where I recently took out my resistor pack and put it back... the pix fairly well indicate where the resistor pack is located....

the pack itself is only $14 or so at bma, so pray you have the pack (as the sword is $100)
