View Full Version : Alarm system/Keyless entry
well, i just pulled up the backseat in my e34, and there was a box labeled "bmw keyless entry security system". the "antenna" and the "input" slots have cables going out of them, so i assume i DO have an alarm system/keyless entry, i just dont have the remote controls for them. how much do remotes cost, any idea?
also, have any of you used the alarm systems off http://www.bmwalarm.com (http://www.bmwalarm.com/)? how are those? do they work as well as the factory one, and are they easy to install?
what would be my best option, order one of those ($199.99 for alarm/keyless entry "plugin" system), or just get a remote control from a dealer?
also, can i just buy an unprogrammed remote control and program it for my system?

also, can i just buy an unprogrammed remote control and program it for my system? You've got the rest, might as well get the remote. Do you have the little black reciever in the overhead panel behind your rearview mirror? I've never seen one of these systems complete in the flesh, but if you have that plus that black box in the rear, am sure you've got all you need. Be prepared for the cost of the remote at the stealer- however it is a better system than some Chinese black box that will probably fail, and their key-fobs don't last either.
The bimmer one does. :) GP
what does that black receiver look like? is it something that's supposed to show, or is it "hidden" somewhere?
i found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33721&item=7974807908&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
i think that's exactly what i have (also w/o the remote). that black panel with the red light, is that what you're refering to? i believe that's located in the center council, right below the rear vents..

Yep, just buy a remote key & try to reprogram it.
For more details--how to reprogram the remote, check the user manual. Pls let me know, if you couldn't find yours.

cool, will do
just placed a bid ($30) on a remote on ebay (+$4 for shipping). didn't want to go for the BIN even though it was only $5 more. figured, if i dont get this one, i can probably get one later for even less. god im stingy... haha.
thanks for the help though, i really appreciate that

Nahhhh...you are not alone...
Since I got the bimmy, I have to save the $$$ as much as posible & spend it later (of course, on my bimmy).
