I Love the e34 (525 90) but I realised today that this model is getting older and older! Do u think that the best car that keeps the good shape and aerodynamics in time is going through the end of its life? Do u think that in a short period from now we are going to talk about e39's or e60's and we will never discuss again about e34??

I have a 91 and 95 525i and have no plans to replace them anytime soon. Sure they need some repairs but compared to a new car payment they are worth it.

well after about another 150k miles and I get another engine it should be good for about another 300k...I dont really see the end of mine unless it gets smashed or rusts.

Sadly I think now's the time all the 1988-92 e34's owned by disinterested owners will be going to the scrap-man - here in the UK there are no shortage of breakers with 2 or 3 E34's in their yards. If there was a way to "stock take" the remaining e34's now and in 18 months time we would have an answer to paschalisg's question. Just an observation chaps, please all don't get upset at me!

Cheers,

Shaun

i was at first decidedly against anything after 1996
as all the electronics and new stuff interfere with the
driving experience...

but there are so many new cars coming out that are
very very good that its silly to ignore them.

the e34 is staying as my daily until i finish school and
buy myself another car and then the e34 becomes my
toy =] huge turbo power m30 style =]

alfa romeo is coming back to the states as well....
noble m400
porsche 993
lotus
subaru
audi a3 vr6 quattor 6spd

all those are prospective cars =]

I've got some issues, but it's all working it self out. I love this car.

I think the e34 will be around for a while. Keep in mind that there are several boards dedicated to the e28, the predecessor of the e34. Once you start to see the e28's disappear, then I'd be concerned about the e34.

I think my next car, and the last car to have the true distinguished BMW styling will be an e38. I hope to get a 2001 740i sport in 2 or 3 years and maybe get an e39 touring.

Cars are rapidly becoming a disposable item and for the majority of car users this is probably the correct place for a transport device.

In time, less of these cars will be the main family or personal transport.

However they do represent a period in automotive design which was modern enough to include advanced technology but prior to the onset of manufacturing purely to a fixed cost.

As such they offer rewarding ownership to individuals intrested in excellent mechanical engineering and a vehicle of genuine character.

If this is not your thing , Fiat Puntos are readily availible, even in Greece.

Jeez Louise, there were over 300 E28s at that '05 e28fest at the factory three weeks ago. Have you never seen a 2002? Worry bout Charles becoming King before worrying bout passing of the e34.
Good point about added complexity not necessarily producing a better car. My '02, e30, e28 and e34 all have distinctive and worthwhile characteristics. That's why I have all four and can't decide which to prune.

Let' s face it, the E34 lines are very unique and it seems time did not go by on these babies. A car has the right lines when people keep looking at it when ever it goes by or sits parked showing of it' s curves. The E34 is one of those unique cars. Where ever you go, people always take interest in knowing who' s driving it or react surprised when you tell them you' re driving a fiver. I sold my E34 last year and have a M3 now whichs is almost finished. This puppy has to leave inmidiately as I miss the E34 too much. Since a few weeks I work at a company that specialices in the 2002,2500,E21,E30 and of course the E34. Still the E30 makes my heart pound faster but the E34 is the package deal on sports, look and comfort. E34 for ever? Count on it!

My next car will UNDOUBTEDLY be an E34!! (and maybe the one after that, and the one after that, and the.....) :D

Id prefer to spend 50k getting an E34 all sorted and 'like new', than spend 50k on an E39.

And I pose another Question to you:

Do you think the ol' E34 will have a collectability or cult desirability like the E30 M3 or '02??

keep in mind guys that it depends what u're using the car for.
i plan to go racing and well u can't really do that effectivly in
an e34...the weight of the thing is a setback and there is only
so far chassis tuning can go before you start looking at full on
tube frame jobs =]

Get a seperate race car?

Exactly, that's the way I do it. e34 for daily, e30 for track.

Guys, I've only had my E34 for a few months now, but I love this car!!! I was pulling out of a parking spot a few weeks ago and this guy with his wife and a few kids just stopped and stared. These cars have a timeless beauty that will always turn heads.
