Paint Touch up.. Did I just Shoot Myself in the foot

I am going to ask before I go mess up the paint on my car anymore then it already is.

My e34 has a couple of spots where it has started to rust, (door corners and a couple on the hood)

I think back to my days of owning a ford and what I would do, so I scrapped all the loose rust off, and sprayed some rustolim brand auto primmer on it. Now it's time to sand that off, and re prime and repaint however I am not having any luck finding anything other then the little chip fillers for the car.

I need the spray can style however I cannot find anywhere that carries in with a color that is a "match" for the car and now I am thinking... did I just shoot myself in the foot.

Here is a picture of the current state of the one side (I have not re sanded yet)

Have you tried any specialist paint suppliers?

We have a local company in Portsmouth UK that can mix any colour you like from the paint code and put it in an aerosol spray can, costs about £10.

yes any "painters supply" house can custom mix you a can, it will probably be pricey tho. I would make SURE that the rustoleum is completelt off the car, I have had a lot of problems with that particular brand regarding peeling paint thats over the primer.

I dont think BMA or any of the regular parts suppliers would have it. Either look at local paint shop suppliers or google it up.

yes definetly! Sometimes they mix clear in with the color for touchup,,,want to check into that.

Thats what I thought... hopefully I can find someplace that sells them sep... it just makes for a better paint job.

Only times I have seen it on ebay is the little chip touch up kits they sell at the stealership...

I will take pictures / do a write up of my repaint as I would assume it something that people in the rust belt's get to deal with.

Any halfords car parts store should be able to mix the colour you need into a rattle-can for about £8 while you wait. I’ve done it before a few years ago before I got the compressor and they were very good.

They sell custom mixed spray cans with or without flex agent in it. You can get the clear seperate also if you want.

Try to find a shop that sells Dupont or Standox paint (both are from the same supplier). They should be able to scan the paint directly on your car with a smart little paint scanner and match the color exactly, even on older paint surfaces the scanner compensates the color loss of the original paint over the past years.

clear coat back in April but haven't done the touch up yet. Also bought the paint chip filler from BAS and haven't used this as of yet either. I believe the pens were in the $20 range.

while the parts were still on there? If so, what process did you use? My front grill/bumper area is full of nicks. I would love to repaint it myself but I don't have a garage big enough or tools needed to disassemble the front end. Any ideas?

I am getting the paint today, I am just going to pull the inside door panels off then mask it all off, and go for it.

I have a couple of spots on the hood that I will also do the same with, I will be taking pictures and the like so everyone can see how it worked out for me.
