I have a few Dell Inspiron 8000's I am looking to sell to fund my new headlights on my E39. They all have 800-900mhz processors, and at least 256mb RAM, 20-30gb hard drives. The screens are 15" and you have a choice of 1400x1050, or 1600x1200 screens (i have extra screens that are swappable). They are perfect for college. I will include a brand new battery which gives them about 1-2hrs depending on what's used. All have a CD-ROM, i might be able to dig up some dvd-roms for them. S-Video out, all ports on the back. Comes with Windows XP Home or Pro (legal version), Office 2003, AVG AntiVirus, Nero burning ROM, and anything else preferred by the buyer. Also have docking stations available for them.

...to surf for recipes and the like while downstairs. Our desktop is in the furthest room upstairs, and I'd really like some accessibility downstairs, but not looking for the latest and greatest. Just something we can surf with downstairs (and I could load the ETK on to use in the garage...;) )

The absolute base model is going for around $400 on ebay, these are pretty loaded up, with the high-res screens, ram, hard drives and docking stations. I'll go $450 for everything, plus i'd say about $10-20 for shipping. I've also got one older Inspiron 3800 that i'll let go for $300, it's quite a bit slower though, but it works perfectly.

i believe it's like a 500 or something, i will check as soon as i get home. It has 128 or 256mb ram in it, and a 12gb drive i think.
EDIT: Forgot about this one, I also have a Dell Inspiron 7500 here, it's the huge one they made. 512mb ram, and a PIII 650mhz proc. 20gb drive i think. It's huge though, 16" screen, DVD ROM and whatnot. $375 for that one.
For those of you who want a faster one, Dell has been having some $750 off $1499 or more on inspiron laptops lately, there are many variations of it. Search the online deal sites and prob might find one.
So for $749 and up you can get a new faster one (1.6GHz and up). But you have to get the coupon code from somewhere, they usually have a 5000 limit, so act quickly or else get one of these from bimmerdood if you don't need the speed...

How much to send to Canada... and do they have SERIAL ports? Built-in... not some add-on USB :)

YES, they all have one COM/Serial port on them, two USB ports, one parallel port, one s-video, and one external vga port. The docking station passes all of these through to the back of it. Also has a 1394 (Firewire) connector on it too. Not sure on the Canada shipping, i'm in Dallas, TX 75252. I'd say each laptop with power brick, battery, and such weighs about 8lbs.

This is true, but the past 2 years, the only Dell laptops that are of good quality are the Inspiron XPS, and Precision Laptops. The rest of them have quite a few of their own problems. If you end up wanting to buy one of these new ones, head over to www.dealsofamerica.com that's where you'll find the coupon codes for the new laptops. Also, when you use the coupon codes, you're usually limited to a base model, without adding any sorts of options, like the display which would be a huge turn off for me. I have to have the 1600x1200 now that i have one of these with them.
