17” staggered wheels on an E34

I am, 235/45/17 front, 255/40/17 rear, I love the handling, I would only buy staggered for my 540.

Why for only a 540? I have 535 5speed, and am looking at 17x8 front and 17x9 rear.

i think he ment he would only but them instead of regular wheels, he did not mean that he would only buy them for 540's, its a tricky depiction of words, but i think he ment it this way

I have 235/45/17 for the fronts and 255/40/17 for the rears. The ride quality seem to be the same as 235/45/17 on all fours. I noticed the turn-in seemed to be sharper and it reduced understeer compared to 235/45/17 on all fours. The staggered setup is the way to GO! I have staggered on all of my cars. :D

How wide are your rims?


8" front and 9 rear

with the same 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear tires. The back rims only cleared the rear suspension by about 1/8" but they cleared and don't rub.

I thought about getting staggered 18" Style 37 M-Para replicas but changed my mind for several reasons. The weight (replicas are heavy), the fact that I could no longer rotate my tyres (made worse if lowering the suspension do to increased tyre wear unless you fit camber adjusters) and most insurance companies in Australia only allow a 1" increase in wheel width over standard. So 8" is okay, 9" is not.

I wound up buying set of 17" x 8" genuine Throwing Stars fitted with Toyo 17"/45/235's. The ride okay (better than 18"s), they look good, they're light and strong, I can rotate my tyres and I can get my money back if I sell them. So for me there were far too many negatives going staggered. ;)

Ted, same setup as Chris (Sharkman540i)...love it. It definitely keeps the rear in line, although with ASC+T off and a bit more throttle you can build up some good slip angle (oversteer) if you want. Nicely balanced for a car that can put a fair bit of power to the rear coming out of a turn...
