I've been running the EAT chip for a while. I like it a lot, I want to go back to the powerchip to see what it's like. They claim 21kw increase and a 36nm increase with my chip over a stock chip. I'm skeptical because I think the EAT chip is better. To get rid of any doubts the powerchip is going back in. the 179.0R on the EAT chip signifies a 6500 rpm limit, up from 6200. These things are so easy to change. 20mins max.

actually forget that, i just had a look at the EAT chip prices and there's no way i'm getting a powerchip now... the only question from me is: with an auto is there any point getting one of the chips that increase the rev limit? i'm pretty sure the transmission shifts at 5800-6000 regardless, so it probably won't help me at all (plus with 272kkm on the clock it probably shouldn't go higher)

You can buy my powerchip if you want. your right the trans shifts at at around 5800-6000. If you hold the car in gear, than you can rev the engine higher.

Remember that it will take a while for the maps to get re-learned for your new chip, so the best comparison will be after you've driven around a while. Try to hit lots of different load/RPM points at mid throttle... that's where the fuel trim map is learned. WOT just uses the learned trim settings but there's no feedback, so if you're like me and drive at WOT all the time, it won't have a chance to adjust!

I had a few pulls against a e34 535is with a 5 speed, eat equipped. down low and off the line my car was slower, acutally my car was slower against it right through the rev range, it feels like a dog off the line. I went for a passenger ride in his car, first time in a manual e34 535i, he was pulling to around 6000, the engine was smooth and it loved to rev. It feels a lot different than the auto, that it gets to the redline a lot quicker, of course more gears. The car had around 280,000 kms on the clock. it had 17"s, the ride was comfortable - an eibach / bilstein combo

I had a drive of a 535is manual here a year or so ago. It was bloody marvelous!! None of the lag that our autos get... just smooth 211bhp from standing start!! Not afraid to smoke some rubber either, even in 2nd!!

Lucky I didn't get a manual... I'm nice and gentle on the auto. Manuals are racers, autos aren't (no offense Kriss)

lol. thats cool mate. we have a 3.91 diff, as grave77 found out recently, a auto to manual swap would result in a top speed of 210km at 6200rpm. Anyway the eat chip went back in, more torque down low, not as much accelerator pedal needed for the same acceleration.

by the way with a chip it made 235Km/h but RPM is almost 7500!! I'm still seeking a 3.64 or 3.46 Diff. ratio !!

I just bounced the 500,000+km 525im off the rev limiter for the first time last week (wasn't paying attantion, tisk, tisk). It took it like a trooper.

How come you'll swap the entire block, instead of doing an overhaul? These blocks can take upto 3 overhauls in their lifetime.

Yeah Kris, the manual is very different from the auto even my wagon with that huge weight penalty but once it got going from 3000 rpm onwards, the manual revs like crazy, and goes like a bat-out-of-hell without too much fuss.
The car does not really "want" me to relax driving it. It begs to be driven hard, so much fun without passengers. With wife and kids, I do 1st, 2nd and 5th (3 gear mode) just to get me to go smooth and slow 8-(

Have you ever considered the 4.27 diff. with your auto? I also have the 3.91 in my auto and test drove a 535iA with the 4.27. It was noticeably quicker!

Rather than pulling the block and doing the overhaul later (not sure whats up with cyl#5, except its in the bottom end), I found a relatively cheap block and had it rebuilt it (main, rod bearings, rings). I will then be able to 'play' with the one I pull out and think about fun stuff to do with it :)

Anyone want a supersized m50 for a project?

Are you sure the BigSix M30 block can get to 7500 rpm ???. Without blowing valves to smithereens ?. Would that be 6500 rpm ?.
The small grahic shows around 6100 rpm there. And the speedo sure looks like 235Kph. Great stuff.
It think it was 7500 rpm, he hits 7000 regulary.

well am bad ... I ment 6500 RPM ... and almost close to 7000. the picture below was when I had my Auto on. I will put a new one with the manual ... I think it will be a video. the BigSix can handle hell of pressure ... I almost blew a valve when I reved the engine to around 8000 with an unlimited rev chip. now I think it cuts off at 7000 and rev up to 6800 smoothly no problems even with the manual tranny. I just replaced the rear wheels :P lots of burnt rubber LoL

not any more kriss ... max is 7000 now ... regularly is 6500 now to 6800.as @ 6500 I drive 220 with the 3.91 diff.
