won't work. the rear headrests have a "flat bar" type holder vs. the "twin rod" holder on the front seats.
well...maybe you could make it work but it would be a hack.

From what I remember in previous posts, the hardware is different. Installing rears requires the brackets designed for the rear headrest specific hardware. You need to cut holes in the rear seat and install plastic hole covers.
I always figured you could probably custom make some sort of brackets to hold front headrests in the back, but I didn't want to be the first to try it.
If you use the search function on this forum or look at bmwe34.net you'll find exactly how others installed the rear desined headrests.

The rear headrests are comletely different to the front ones... They are smaller and a different shape, also they fit differently as has been mentioned. I'll take a pic of mine if you like.

Wait, Brett Anderson is your boss? You have the best job in the world...
You may see my car there in 2 years. I already asked Brett what it would take to get an E36 M3 motor in my car. Just gotta finish law school now.

Yes, yesterday, Rob Levinson was trying to convince me to sell Fritz, buy a later 525 (M50TU...with all of the body and electrics updates) and drop an S50 into it. He is of the opinion that the M50 powered E34 handles better than any of the others due to both engine composition and placement.
If you want an S52/S54: start hunting for the engine harness out of a '95 525 *now*. They go for about $1500 used...because people are doing the same thing you have in mind.
My head was spinning after Rob started talking about me getting rid of my car....Can't remember any of the other details he mentioned, beyond what I wrote yesterday in reply to that thread on buying a project 535iA.
best, whit
