View Full Version : Where to buy a bare head?

As some of you know, I recently spent a large sum of cash to remove and replace the head on my 90 525i and put some extra oomph in it. Unfortunately, it appears that the head is STILL letting coolant and oil mix and therfore the head has to come off.
But this puts me in the position of getting a new bare head. We will use most of the hardware from the rebuild (as it was all replaced) on the new bare head.
Do any of you know where to get a guaranteed good bare head?
Thanks,
Alan

I got mine from these guys. It's not high performance but does the job good and have had no problems. I like that they do not ask for a core either.
Good luck.

Alan, I am not Winfred,
but,
Go to a decent and good shop. Thet can do it. Cheapest ist NOT always the best.
There must be experts around there.
It looks to me that you start the same story again and the wrong way.
Sorry again, I am not Winfred, and watever I said, forget and burn the papers .

Thanks for your advice. I really do have faith in the shop that I am at. This particular screw up, while their fault, was not for lack of competance or effort. The crack only shows itself once the head gets nice and hot which there is no way to check. The head held pressure for 8 hours with no drop before they rebuilt it. They are standing behind the work and only charging me for the replacement head. And they are far far from the cheapest!

Excellent Bill. Even though it costs more, I feel a lot more comfortable with a brand new head. At this point saving a few bucks is no longer on my list, i just want to be able to drive my car already!!!
