View Full Version : Will these rims fit my E34?

These rims are from an E39. I know I need hub centric rings, but could there be any other issues to worry about? Shimmy, wheels sticking out the side of the car, wheels rubbing against the inside of the wheel well???

17 inch, 235 wide.

Thanks,
Niels

I think they fit, I think you can get rub on the front with 245s, but not necessarily. :) GP A few people in the US have them- I think Lowell has them.

ALL 5 series share the same offset pcd and bolt pattern. They are the fabled style fives and 235 wide tyres are just right.Do it.......and you may approach the pinnacle of e34-ness

Thanks for the input! These are my favourite E34 wheels in the world. Just wondering if this specific model will fit. The do! Happy. happy happy.

If you get them make a trip to Babies-R-Us and get a few bottle brushes to clean them with :D

Yes with hubcentric spacers.

Besides being a drop dead gorgeous rim, I dig the way that my brain interprets the style 5 pattern two different ways.

Sometimes they look like a repeating tear shape pattern to me.

Sometimes they look like a set of repeating YYYYY.

What do they look like to other people?

There used to be a fab sit that had pictures of all the wheels and a little write up about each one. BMW busted them and made them take it down.

The busted site gives a a link to a site which appears to be german--not that I can tell for sure. You can still see most of the pics and numbers but not read about them unless you you read that language.

Is the Style 5 really a two-piece rim, or does it just look like one?

Any reason to ever take the two pieces apart?

The one piece of advice I'll offer on fitting wheels with hubcentrics is...

BUY NEW TIRES when the wheels are mounted, and it probably wouldn't hurt to get an alignment while you're at it!

The Kumho 712s that were included (used) with my style 5's have done about 7,000 miles on the car and they suck worse every day. Feathering, flat spotted, and nasty, they're now responsible for a slight 55 to 60mph shimmy. Swapping in a set of E34 540i wheels with new tires eliminated all noise and ride discomforts, leaving me to hear my transmission whine.

While they might be good when bought new and used on the same car; I've confirmed with other owners under similar circumstances that they're just not up to par.

Get new tires, new aluminum hubcentric rings, and everything should be copacetic. That is, unless the wheels are bent to begin with.

Real 2 piece. Couple of reasons. If you wanted to refinish them or paint the centers. Or if you want to change offset or rim width, you can keep the same center.

So if I'm interpreting this linked site right they make style 5 rims in 8 x 17 for 235/45R17 ET 20 which I could put on the front of my E34 (without hubcentric rings?) and 9 x 17 for 255/40R17 ET 22 which I could put on the rears?
