E34 Sport Seats

As some of you know I work in a dealership and have for the last 10 years. Today I saw a very sad 1989 E34 525ia come into the shop with three bent rims and shotgun tires. The car had been painted many times and appeared to have been originally red and then green, yellow, and the current silver. I think it comes out of Florida. What suprised me and prompts this question is the interior was equipped with the M5 type sport seats. The interior was the silver/grey color and the seats appeared to be original since they matched the backseat. Production date on the car was 11/88. Was is possible to order sport seats back then or have these just been added later on?

were they leather or cloth?
the e28s had sport seats so i dont see why that early e34 couldnt...
then again that car has no history so who knows where they came
from..

In Australia we had (and I still have) an M-tech (is) model. It came standard with a sport suspension, manual, leather sport seats, body kit and some other minor stuff.
Mine is 1989 with the original sport seats so they were available about that time.

Have you had an issue with excessive wear on the drivers side door cushion?
