My rear differential broke unexpectedly, took it to a shop and found out that it was leaking because of a crack. Had to replace it :(

I also just had my transmission rebuild, could the two be possibly related? I never had any problems with the differential before.

Ever since I got the car, I had problems with the idle. It was pretty rough, lots of vibration. I changed the engine and transmission mounts, didnt do much...Anybody know what might be the problem?

hmm...might be the power steering pump...check under the dash for a large nut behind the steering wheel and give it a few twists. If that dont help repost what you did and we'll try to help again.

Good luck!

to many a relative.

The loose nut behind the wheel is always my first suspicion during any trouble shoot session.

it helped my car more than any suspension upgrade or when I redid the trans and rear end mounting bolts.

By the way, Jeff. I've still got that halogen fluid sitting in my garage. I think you mentioned that your lights are running a little low?

PM me if you still want it.

best, whit

It's down there...have to look really hard sometimes, maybe get a mirror. Then you realize it's staring you in the face, and you're like, "Wowie Zowie David Bowie!"

You don't take the dash off. That takes half a day. Just look under the dash, around the pedals. There's a black plastic panel secured by a couple of plastic thumb-screws, quarter turn each and it comes right off. Look up in there for the steering colum nut. You need a bigish spanner to turn it, and someone to hold the steering wheel. Not too tight, I forget what the torque spec is.

Did anybody read Bumers original post or am I going mad?
How did his "Rear differential/rough idle" post turn into a 'steering nut' thread?

I think it's the nut sitting behind the steering wheel of Jeff's car that made this thread take a wrong turn...
