...ever since our friend Katrina wacked us Thursday night. A lot of people here are still without their power, and some streets are still flooded, and all this from a little Catagory 1 Storm that many people paid no attention to. Nine people are dead, 5 from having trees fall on them while they were out during the storm, and two drowned because they thought they could ride this "little storm" out in their houseboat. Two others died from carbon-monoxide poisoning because they had a generator inside their house after the storm. ALL of these deaths are from stupidity. Be safe.

Heh..I spent all Saturday mowing, putting stuff into the basement, getting rid of some iffy tree limbs...then they change the projected course. It would be cool to see the river 17" above flood stage though. :D

at over 100 miles inland and not in a flood zone about the only thing to worry about is tornados knocking trees on the house, i was out on a bicycle in andrew when the eye passed, upwind sucked but the run back to the house was fun at 40-50 mph without pedaling :D

Yeah, we joke here that we don't have weather (mostly 60 -70 degrees and sunny) year round nor do we have seasons in the traditional sense. We have fog-freeway pile up season (winter), mud slide season (late winter early spring), tourist season (summer), and fire season (fall).

Here in south the San Andreas fault is pretty far inland but is coastal in Josh's part of our long state. Here we get all excited when the earth rumbles and we get to feel it. If you are walking or in a car you miss it. Here it is a cool thing rather than something we are afraid of.

Our favorite saying is "just another shitty day in paradise." :p

After checking out my fourth favorite site on the internet, ClevelandGasPrices.com, and concluding with those on the national forum over there -- gas prices are going to skyrocket tomorrow, and maybe stay that way for a few weeks.

I put $40 in Fritz. 15 gallons. Sad. That should last me two weeks if I don't have to take any side trips.

Winfred, like you, I'd be out in the middle of it. The bicycle bit is pretty freakin' hilarious, too. Did you pedal by any little old ladies flying through the air?

yeah, louisiana is kinda a BIG @ss chokepoint for petroleum coming into the US, gas prices are gonna get fun...
i remember in FL, this time last year, gas prices went from about $1.80 to $2.30 for premium overnight, and nowhere had power, so even if you could afford gas, it didn't mean you could buy it.
just went and filled up with "discount" premium, $2.67/gallon. i have to drive for work three days this week, not a wise decision in retrospect.

woohoo power's back on, went off about 10 minutes after i posted this morning and came back on 15 minutes ago, we may of gotten gusts in the 40-50 mph range but not for long and not much rain

I got a lot worse than that!! Little Kitty was just a Cat 1 when she went over my house, and I'm thinkin' that I had a few gusts of maybe 80mph. I went out when the eye passed over me and it was dead still. 10-15 minutes later I was in a concrete kinda shed and it picked up and I bet it was at least 60-70 mph. Much stronger than Jeanne last year.

I'm glad to hear that so far all's well with you. Once you get your stuff in order, you should take your Mom on a cruise or go somewhere for a vacation, cuz the real PITA is about to start. No traffic lights, idiot drivers, poor utility services, lines in all the stores.....all the stuff that's AFTER it's over, that's the real pain. Maybe you should go to Panama Beach, I hear it's real nice there! :p ;) :p ;)

My house is on the water in Biloxi, MS. Im not expecting good things to ocme of this. When camile hit in '69 it took down nearly half the house. This is 40 years later and an older house now, i dont know how good of luck where going to have with this one.

Try to remember that your old house can be replaced once again, but your sorry old bones and those of your family and friends can't. :p
