I'm trying to get a feel for the mileages you folks are getting out of your automatic 525i's. Our '95 has 130k on the original, with fluid changes at 30, 60, and 90k miles. It's due for one now, and am wondering if I should go through with it. Please answer the appropriate category for your car (or cars).
1) regular changes (every 30k miles), and still going strong at 150k+ miles.
2) never changed it, and still going strong at 150k+ miles
3) regular changes and it went south before 150k miles
4) never changed it, and it went south before 150k miles
5) automatic? who the heck would buy one of those?
6) WRITE-IN...STILL GOING at 100-150K miles

130 and 150 on his 2 525's (http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=4728&highlight=Dick+Schneiders)
The only ones i've had to change out so far have been isuzu's with that transmission.. they typically have failed at between 120 and 160 , I've only done 3 though and all three were not taken care of at all.. they may have never had the fluid changed and these even had dipsticks..
Also why is it south? why not went east, or went north?:p

I've been wanting to do a tranny service, the PO serviced at 99,000 miles. It's still going strong, observed the color of fluid when I recently replaced radiator, it was getting a little brown. I'm debating on filling and draining a couple times before dropping pans. 1992 525i @ 185,000 miles.

i have a 95 as well with about 145k miles. the auto tranny fluid has been changed at every inspection II. the tranny has slipped more than a few times now though when not fully warmed up. another inspection II is coming up, and hopefully after that the tranny will return back to normal.

Bill,
As far as I can tell, my PO never serviced the tranny (all service done by dealer) and at 173K it seems fine. Although I probably just jinxed it :)
