Anyone know much about BMW Motorcycles

What would you recommend for the best source for BMW motorcycle info in the net. I'm thinking about purchasing one sometime over the next couple of years. I'm drawn more to the mid to late '70's (which are definetly more in the price range I'm thinking about) and I really like the looks of the more classic era bikes.

What model would you say is the most desirable to enthusist? Most reliable? Easiest to maintain and find parts for, etc? I'm not necessairly interested in raw speed, just something reliable, and fun to ride around on weekends and through the N. GA mountains.

Here's a couple that caught my eye. The K75C is only 20 miles from here.
But the R60 is more of what I had in mind.

Can't say I'm the expert, and I'm a bit out of touch as far as asking prices for used Beemers these days, but I've got 2- a '74 and '75 R90s. This was considered the first real "Superbike" back in the day, and it's becoming VERY collectible as evidenced by the prices I've seen lately. But if you want to have something that you can ride and enjoy, that's likely to INCREASE in value, find a decently priced R90s and buy it!!


There are many BMW-bike messageboards and mailing lists out there, I'm on the R90s Yahoogroup, but that's about it.

I belong to IBMWR.org. Tons of info on thier website or join the mailing list. It comes to you in either digest mode or straight message delivery to your email.
I would recommend getting a seperate gmail account to handle the shear volume of info.
There is also airheads.org ,for just airhead info. Heard it's real good too.

You can find them out there for a reasonable price. As with an E34, try to find the most solid, well maintained example you can afford.

the flat wins are very easy to work on,but i dont know what the parts situation is.The r90s would be the pick for its collectibility bit a 750 0r 650/600 of the same era will be heaps cheaper.they are strange to ride at first,when you blip the throttle at rest the bike pushes to the right(?) with the tourque reaction

I don't know too much about the airheads, but I was seriously considering getting a K-bike. Here's a link to a site I found quite some time ago that has lots of info on the K75 and the K100. It may help you decide if you want a K or an R bike. Good luck on your bike search.

That's the type of info I'm looking for Bret. I don't know much about the model line, what's straight, and what's really "a 518 re-badged as an M5" at this point.

I think I need to find a link to a complete model listing, showing proper colors, options, specs, etc.
