I've ordered clear turn signal lenses. Will I have to replace the bulbs, or are they orange?

Most likely, you'll have to find some orange bulbs.

you will need orange bulbs and you can dust them with silver paint to prevent the egg yolk look...keword is "dust" the bulbs not "coat" them with silver or they will get hot enough to ment the sockets.

Great tip. Thanks.

I take it these bulbs are fairly generic, available at any auto parts place?

remove one and get the amber ones, just make sure the glass design is the same and it's the same watts, in other words match it up to an amber.

I guess I never thought about it. Are the orange / amber bulbs more expensive?

No...not really, if it was...not enough to make me notice.

I have seen bulbs that looked silver/clear but when activated they blinked ornage. I will try to find the link.

those are like 16 bux each, you could buy enough paint to make a few amber bulbs silver. but to each their own.

Just so I feel a little more confident, can you give me an idea of what level of 'dusting' I should put on?

Thanks. That coating looks pretty thick. Does it seem right to you guys?

he has the right concept, but i agree, it is thick. you want to "dust" the bulbs with silver paint.

Those look to be coated too thick. The proof will be when you install them. They may be too dim.

Yeah, that's waaaay too thick. I'd prefer to err on the safe side by still seeing a bit of orange, vice make a mini-furnace inside of a bulb's housing....

Okay, yeah, I thought that guy laid it on too thick. I think I know what I'm going for now. Thanks!

Which one's did you order? If you ordered the Hellas, they will come with the correct orange bulbs. As far as spraying them silver, you just need to spray the top section. Greg M. 1992 525i.

I just used the clear bulbs I already had in the amber lenses... even with the clear bulbs the signals still have a wee bit of yellow in them at night due to the reflectors.

I have OEM clears though so your results may vary.
