will a 89 m20 5-sd tranny fit an auto 92

A gentleman I know wants to use my 89 m20 tranny to do a auto to manual swap on his 92. Can anyone elaborate on whether this is possible and the parts are compatible? Thanks in Advance, Brian Clark

i dont believe so, but i could be wrong. I know the ZF 5-spd and Getrag 5-spd from the '91-95 325i and 525 i will work, just make sure you get the tranny mounts and crossmembers for that transmission, as the 2 have different crossmembers.
