Correct tire pressure for Style 5 17's?

Hey Guys.

I got my hands on a set of "Style 5" rims (the ultimate wet dream rims!).
17 inch, 235 wide. From an E39 w/hubcentric rings.
What I need is some info on the "correct" pressure for the tires. The thingy inside the driver's door doesn't give any info on that width of tire.

Suggestions?

the size of tire is irrelevant, the sticker is accurate for the car, regardless of size... 15", 17"...
pressure per square inch is the same

Congrats! But now you will need to find a good wheel cleaning product, buy shares in the company and watch your stock rise!! :p

I agree 100% that the correct pressure is what is on the door jamb sticker.

BUT

With lower profile tires, running the same pressre can lead to rim damage as less deflection is required to make contact with the rim. Which is why many people with +2/+3 wheel/tire packages run higher pressures.

Also, higher pressures will affect handling. You can dial down understeer, increase cornering speeds by playing with tire pressures.

FWIW I run 38 psi all around on 225/55/16 Bridgestone SO3s.

M5 spec is 38F/41R for normal driving. This is for a 235/45ZR17 tire.

The spec for the 225/60HR15 is 29 front IIRC - way too low for a lower profile donut.

Tire pressures given for E34 M5 with 235-45-17 tires are 38 front 41 rear. This should put you about right. You can plus or minus 2 psi and see if you like the difference.

Congratulations on the wheels, you'll soon see that there are 34 little titanium bolts that hold the two piece wheel together....=) just ask me how I know...

same as always,the star pattern but with 34 points...now keep track of which is which!!!!I am gonna try the M5 pressures too!

I run 41 all around on my 5's and have never had any rim damage (or sidewall damage)...a little bit of oversteer, but I think that's a chipped 4.0L V-8 and 6-speed for ya! :D

Hey Jason, so are the hubcentric rings a must for this wheel? I got my hands on a set as well about 3 months back... But due to a good ol Nikasil engine failure, I haven't even been able to think about putting them on... until now. :-D. I put up a post a while back regarding these and was informed that I did not need hubcentric rings....

I'm not sure how to tell, and im not sure how many varieties the Style 5 wheels came in, but i would assume they are E39 rims.The hub bore on the E39 for some reason is larger than most BMWs and if you don't have the rings you will feel a shimmy becuase the wheel will not be centered on the hub.
