Anyone tried swapping the auto gear knob for something nicer?

I seem to remeber there being a thread about swapping the gear lever knob for a more modern shape, i can't find it though. If I wanted to put on a nice none t shaped knob are there any BMW ones that would fit? What kinda mods might i need to do?
