Thanks for the good advice administrator. Some 'newbies' because of their employment don't wish to provide answers to all of the fields. As I have nothing to hide here I go. I am a police officer in the state of New South Wales Australia. Until about 12 months ago I was a Traffic Coordinator and have handed out traffic tickets to more BMW drivers than I care to think about. I did so in the interest of keeping drivers, and the families of drivers, alive to enjoy their motoring. I am a big supporter of car clubs and club motor sport activities (particularly on closed roads or circuits). I have, in the past, been a member of the NSW BMW Driver's Club, Club Sport Register (shirt wearing member!!!) and the secretary of the NSW BMW Driver's Club for about 18 months (1998-1999). I have a great love for the BMW marque and would enjoy nothing more than being a regular contributor to these threads. I am not willing to engage in discussion about policing matters but would love to keep reading the threads and reply where I think I may be able to help. I have posted only a few threads but have already received some great advice from members of this site. Any views expressed by me are in no way related to my employment by the NSW Police and I do not represent, in any way, the NSW Police in any replies or advice that I may give. I hope this thread has let you know more about who I am, and that is; a BMW nut for over 10 years and the husband of a BMW widow. Keep posting and enjoy the BMW family.

There's a large police training center in Goulburn, it's also the home of Wakefield Park. It's a small city, with very heavy water restrictions. I've never had any problems with the police down there (fingers crossed). I also know their communications systems is encrypted on a digital system. The only thing I want to know, it how effective my hardwired V1 is going to be?

Raced at Wakefield, spun at Wakefield (E12), done pursuit training at the centre you mention. As fare as the V1. No comment... Nice photo of the E34 in anger BigKriss. Especially leading that (what is it, pornsche???) We probably know each other. The Goulburn Highway Patrol (HWP) give no quarter. Be VERY careful!!! The 2 recycled water car washes in town are making a fortune from me...

i was only joking about the V1, they are illegal with heavy fines. I haven't done a lot of reading into it, however you can look around the internet for intricate and concealed setups for the e34. If your ever caught with such a setup I assume it's deny, deny, deny. Jammers and detectors are avaliable, you just have to have a look around. I'd be a lot more concerned if I was driving a ford or a holden personally.

Our cars are rare in australia and most cops (i would think, don't know personally), wouldn't know much about the e34 at all. Most bmw drivers are older guys, while the "young hoons" mostly go for the aussie cars. My last resort is always the Northern Territory to really see what she can do :)

Holden. That name comes up often in posts from Down Under. What is a Holden? I mean, is it from a large parent like Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan... etc.? I foudn their web site and they look like a quite large company, but I wasn't able to ID their family tree. Some of it looks like GM here in the States, some looks like Toyota, and one or two look like they could be Fords. Holden buys from a bunch of manufacturers and sells under their own brand name or something like that?

Holden is part of the GM group and the name originates from the 'Holden Brothers' saddlery/coach trimmers workshop in Melbourne I think. There is a great rivalry in OZ between Holden and Ford drivers which culminates each year in the 'Great Race' which is the Bathurst 1000 (I'm sure you've heard of it). Whether you drive a BMW,Subaru, Toyota or whatever you are still asked whether you are a 'Ford or Holden man'!!! Holden cars, even though based largely on US and Euro designs are a bit of an Aussie icon. Thanks for the welcome 632 Regal!

Ah. Thanks! I was thinking GM when the "Caprice" model showed up on the drop-down list. I swear that some of them look like Toyotas 'tho. Heh. Sounds like Holden is doing better there than GM is here.

What is a Holden?
To further confuse.
Holden is part of GM but traditionally more linked to Opel in Europe than GM in the States as far as models are concerned.
Holden Monaro is source of your Pontiac GTO.
Competes neck & neck with Ford.
Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon are large family sedans with large sixes (approx 4 litre) or eights (approx 5-6 litre).
Good value for money but poor to average build quality, little refinement or safety and now being overtaken by Japanese & European sixes & fours.
Testing is done by the consumer and recalls are common.
Well suited to long distance touring on rough roads.
Toyota have now overtaken both Holden & Ford in this country.

g,day and welcome. Good to see more aussies finding their way here. That makes 2 coppers in two days i've met. nothing sinister, i had to interview a very nice lady officer yesterday in syd. I'm on the cenral coast. Do u have any lady copper friends that are single as BIG kriss is looking for a bird but hes a but shy. The girls dont call him BIG for nothing.

Sharkman you may have had an HT if it was '69. The HK was '68 HT '69 and HG '70...How do I know this? what is wrong with me???I grew up in the bush where EVERYONE drove old Holdens. My first 'real' car was a Holden '71 LC Torana 2 door.

I actually lived and worked in the bush in South Australia for a year... kangaroos everywhere!
Hard not to love such a beautiful place.... friendly people too.... it was the most beautiful country I have been to so far :D
And the Great Barrier Reef.... WOW!

As far as cars went, I have never seen so many old cars from the 60s and 70s that were in such great shape... mint condition Datsuns everywhere!
