I live in a surfer ghetto and this is what was happening in the hood today.

People who made a career of being a surfer live here and spend their retirements wearing Hawaiian shirts.

...certainly is a different lifestyle over there.

Wouldn't it be great if we all still owned our e34 40 years from now.

Gayle

And their paint jobs looked like this.

Gayle

And their engines were guilded with chrome.

Plenty of wood outside. I have not seen such cars for a long time!. Well, in 20-30 years time, my E34 would hopefully look pristine outside but inside, it will be a different story.
Cf this and nanotube manufactured plastics and fabric that.
Engine bay will house a 3 stage direct drive electric motor that generates more torque than the V10 M5, and it drives itself thru a "driver personality module". ie driving like me but all computer controlled. It would be very location aware and human aware. Non-recognised driver and it will shutdown and refuse to budge. Or it could play Jay Leno jokes to anyone who scorns at it!.

That will be my E34. No need any flashy audio when have a "buddie" thats your car.

It is only 9:30 PM on Saturday. Not really past my bedtime. :)
Thanks for the aussie time stamp. I am always curious what time it is in the land down under and even though I have had the time difference explained to me I can't keep it straight. You guys are always just coming on the board when the rest of my countrymen are going to bed as I am in the most western time zone in the US.

Gayle, I never knew your part of CA was so whitebread -- the word "ghetto" practically threw me off; perhaps you meant "grotto" (that is, a very loose interpretation the word's meaning).

The word ghetto has taken on an association with a particular minority in this country that has limited the correct use of the word.

Webster's: 1. a quarter of a city in which members of a minority group live especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure or 2. an isolated group.

I was correct in saying I live in a surfer ghetto. Not all of them are retired longboarders. A large part of the population is a young surfers who are underemployed so they can surf and the rest are corporate attorneys, investment bankers, etc who were young surfers once and decided to get a real job but still surf on weekends.

Well maybe not the chrome thing, but I'm up for it.

You are right Ralph. I like bling a little too much. My mother never taught me to just say no to chrome.

How about just having immacuately detailed engine bays? Would that work for you? To make my point, have you ever seen the pictures of Jrs engine? Of course is a M5, but there is a reason it has been described as M5 porn.

.....and great ones they are by the way.....just seem to to scream to me and my "few generations removed" age group.....to just chuck it all, give up working for "The Man" and to move to a simpler lifestyle. Hey, I could open a fish taco stand, join the hang ten life and live off of my savings. For about 27 minutes. The Woodies are really a unique "Time and Place" part of history aren't they? As an original, they are classic, as reproductions they just don't justify the goofyness of their looks. I never considered the Woodie PT Cruiser look when I bought mine, but one of those classics would allow me to, at the very least, live a little vicariously in it's day.

Now you're talking, Gayle. I think a detailed engine bay makes the car run that much better. Or does it just seem like it?

That '32 with the flathead in it is nice. Looks like a beehive oil filter on the firewall, that thing is worth a pretty penny if it's an original.

I probably saw 10 of them with for sale signs. The only one I saw a price tag on it the car in the first picture of the second post. $44,999

Maybe PT Crusiers will turn into classics like VW bugs. I still think you should do flames on yours. That would be so hot.

Funny thing. You walk into any town in Cuba and you'll see these as daily drivers :|
