A few days ago I saw steam coming from the vents, now the car smells toxic and the windows fog up all the time.

How much time should a shop charge for the replacement??? Should I drive 600Km this weekend and get it fixed next week???

My indy charged me around $350 for parts/labor, but the people here think that I got away w/ murder. Also, you can drive the car as long as you leave the temp knobs all the way CCW (cold).

The local bmw dealer estimated NZD$1300-$1600, and I had another estimate for 14 hours labour. I just wanted to know the time it takes, so I can work out if the labour component is right. Winter is approaching, and it's already about 12-15 degrees celsius here... so leaving it set to cold isn't really an option.

I believe the part was $200 so I guess my mechanic only charged 2-3 hours labor.

Yeah, our currency is different so can't really compare prices. I do know that there are three different cores all at different prices. Read my new post...
