graph on dash

hey, does anyone know what that little graph is for when you first turn on the car its there for about 20 seconds. It goes from green, to yellow, to red, it used to have all the green lights lit up except 1 i think and nothing else, now it is down to 2 greens left, what does this mean?? oh yeah i have a '95 540i

That is the service interval indicator, it tells you when you should change your oil and when to get inspections 1 and 2 done. I don't recall exactly what lights mean what since I keep track of intervals myself.

Inspection 1 and 2 are bigger deals, like checking brake components, seals, belts and hoses. One reason why these cars can go 300,000 miles easy is regular careful attention to details. Treat it like a Chevy and you will get Chevy reliability.
