View Full Version : Photoshop help needed

If I had photoshop, I would do this for Shogun, but I don't, so I am apealling to those of you who do for help.
For those of you who are new and don't Shogun (Erich), he lives in Japan and takes in numerous stray 7 series which is amazing since there is no parking in Japan. He graces our forum with posts that contain the most absolutely wonderful links to helpful websites that contain information you can't find anywhere else. Talk about someone who gives a lot to the board and deserves to be given back to.
He last requested photoshop help on 7-31 and no one came through for him but the request was sort of buried and obsure, so I thought I would SHOUT his request again for him.
Someone keyed his Lazur blue baby all around, but only on the lower line. He is thinking about a 2-color paint, where he can leave the upper original Lazurblau metallic (color 294).

Here are examples of a 2 color paint job from a German car. He wants to see how his car would look with the lower portion gray or any other colors that would look good with color 294.
Example 1

Example 4

Can someone with photoshop transform Erich's 1 or 2 into something like one of the 4 examples? TIA

I dont think the 2 tone thing fairs well on these cars IE: look at the examples... maybe you should do a poll to see what others think?
Man I dodnt read that his car was keyed, id be sick
Agree on all points. All the examples Gayle posted need to complete their look is a big ol' light bar on the roof and a sheriff-badge decal on the front doors.

that is one of the reasons why I got it that cheap. So I am looking for a possibility to do the paint job a bit cheaper, if it looks good. I do not want to just repaint it with a 2-tone if it does not look good.
Just an idea, how it could look like.

What looks good is all a matter of personal taste. Like some of the younger guys on the board want to do stuff to their cars that people talk them out of. My opinion is that it is their car and they should do what makes them happy. If this appeals to you Erich, I think you should go for it.
Two tone would not be popular in the US, but Erich lives in Japan. Have you seen the mods they do to cars there? As we say here, "whatever floats your boat" meaning what makes YOU happy. And besides, if you do it and you don't like it, it is not like this is your only bmw....
Erich just wants to see what it looks like. Can't someone help him out?

maybe others have some more ideas.
What do you think about this idea: I have a large front lip as spare which was installed on the facelift E32 with ducts for direct cooling of the larger diameter front discs brakes, which were only on the German version. The larger discs I get from Germany and the ducts I also have. My idea is to paint the front lip in another colour like this one here. Looks a bit more aggressive

Still on the search for some nice original Alpina wheels.

Do like a M5 paintjob. Leave the car blue or whatever, and then have the lip, sideskirts and the rear valance dark gray. Like this: http://www.paoloscars.com/94bmwe34m5_5.jpg

Now that is an interesting look. I like it.
And those earlier two tones were not my finds. They were Shoguns. I just reposted them.

I don't dig the 2 tone offers either.... BUT, I appreciate what Shogun is trying to do, save some coin!
So, based on that and the fact that cars in Japan are totally different than what we have (as far as mods go), it should work out ok for this project.
The key is to find a colour that goes well.... dark silver or gray, try that.
I have photoshop 9 but have no clue how it works... in fact, how the hell do I learn?! any pointers???!!!

As you all know I am not in the spray painting trade, however I wonder if what Erich is considering is worthwhile.
It is not the two-tone effect that bothers me, though it doesn't really appeal to me, but rather the possibility of ending up with very different paint quality.
I realise that I live on a very sunny continent, however given the ages of the vehicles in question i would imagine that, like here, the horizontal surfaces - bonnet (hood), roof and boot lid (trunk lid) - would be somewhat faded and the paint in poorer condition than the vertical surfaces - doors and quarter panels.
Thus I fear that even though money might be saved, the result could make the horizontal surfaces appear even more faded compared with the new paint job on the sides. This might even be more pronounced with darker colours such as dark blue.
Obviously pure conjecture but thought it might be worth consideration.

good ideas. Talked today with the guy who transported the newcomer to my place, a 1994 750iL.
He said he can do the paintjob at a very special price for me, if we do the preparation work such as removing all chrome parts and the usual stuff necessary to paint it new. About 1000 $, really good price here.
Just want to see a car he has painted before to be sure that it is a good one.
Newcomer just arrived today here for me and my friend Take. Can someone do a real paintshop and repair the car? ;) Well, it is a parts car, 1994 750iL.
