My 535i has had a slight shake for a while and when I was replacing the brakes last week I noticed that my tie rods were completely busted. I found a few replacements on BMA auto parts and another at Bavarian Autosports that look fine. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to make my steering feel like silk.

Busted? as in broken physically in half? and the wheels actually turned when you moved the steering wheel? ....
tips on how to make my steering feel like silk.
Go to www.bmwe34.net (http://www.bmwe34.net). there is a nice picture of the steering assembly. If any componenets, like the pitman arm, idler arm, etc have play, either them or their bushings need to be replaced.

Not too bad of a DIY job, take it for an alignment after you're done though... you might think you have it set perfectly but you never really know.

Thanks for the link Kriss. Sounds like I should make a weekend of it. Did you use OEM replacments or did you find a performance replacment?

I used Lemforder OEM from BMA.
