Wow. It's like a perfect combination of muscle car and F1 sounds (probably fails to describe it accurately, but...). I love it!

18" long, 3" in, 3" out, 3" pipe from cats to muffler

how about price??
It sounds very sweet, deep and powerful.
Very impressive, big score on the grin factor scale!

Haha. This is the best part, I paid a whopping $183 for that. $133 for the muffler, $50 in labor and the 3" pipe. I could not be happier with the price.

so you married the dual cats into a single 3" pipe and then the 18" magnaflow?
If so, that would seem like slight less overall diameter than stock... but the sound it makes leads me to believe that it's a great tune for that exhaust.
Do you have an intake on there or anything?
Also, did you notice any changes in torque or powerband?
I'm really fired up because I've wanted to try a magnaflow on the 540 for awhile.

The stock system has a y-pipe going from 2 cats into one 3" out-pipe to the resonator/muffler. I just had them cut off the center resonator and rear mufflers and throw a 3" pipe and single Magnaflow in there. Zero power increase or decrease, as is common with most exhaust systems on BMW's. No intake, and no plans for one. The power band did not seem to change at all either. Just a great sound around town, and silent highway cruising in 6th, all hell breaks loose when you drop a few gears and punch it though :)

on my E34 540, the dual cats don't go to a y. stays dual all the way out. Although it would seem that I could fab a y pipe and do the same thing, but at a bit more cost.
That's awesome though, really sounds mean. ;)

my E34 525i was dual all the way. I wouldn't recommend collecting them into one if they are already in two. You will end up with a nasty resonance. Magnaflow makes a muffler identical to mine with twin inlets, single or dual outlets with identical internals.

so basiclly what im experiencing is an additional litre of engine here right? Sounds pretty much like the 3 litre, a little louder and a lot more impressive in the rev cam-on areas.....im jittering with an implant idea for if mine ever gives out...or doesnt.
Nice work man, get some cam on full runs dude!

Need a camera person first. I relied on an empty parking lot where i was in view of the camera 99% of the time. I'll snap some good ones this weekend, there's a drive through the hills.

Damn that is nice, way better than my B&B. You say it's quiet on the highway and part throttle? I've been planning on going with some Magnaflow cats, and wondering what my B&B would sound like if I had the resonators removed at the same time. Mine's dual all the way, but yours without resonators sounds real nice.

Think twice about magnaflow cats. Have a look at some sound clips here.

They're all E39's, but the sound is very similar.

Thanks for the clips, but what's wrong with the magnaflow cats? The sound clip of a standard Dinan system with magnaflows sounded good. The clips without resonators, uh, not so good, I think I'll be keeping those.

Dinan is barely louder than stock. maybe 1.5 times, it's muffled quite a bit.

So what's the problem that you see with the Magnaflow cats and my B&B? Is there a system on the link that similar to a B&B, because I really don't think it's loud right now. Yours is about perfect, and my B&B is quieter than that.

Any thoughts on how these might sound on an M30?
Damn, that's a little quiet for my tastes.
