I've owned the car since 1997 and fed it nothing but Amoco premium. I also stay on top of maintenance and use nothing but Mobil 1. Since the car has the original transmission, I consider myself very lucky. However I have maintained it very well also, changing fluid at least once per year.

I have had to fix most all of the usual things, just like every E34 owner will do eventually. Overall I'm happy with my 530i

Everything completely stock except for an EAT Chip I'm evalutaing for Mark D, and the Dinan tranny chip I left in place. Used JC chip anyone?
Results of the eval will be posted after I've run thru a few tankfuls.

Original tranny? Darn! Not even a valve body repair? My valve body needs service at 114,000 miles...

What's it doing that it needs a rebuilt valve body? I'm just wondering? I have no slipping (yet) and it goes into gear as quickly as it ever did.

Thanks

On my way back to Pittsburgh after a weekend visit to my brother in Philadelphia. 1995 530i, second owner original transmission (automatic). Still gets 25 mpg on the highway and able to cruise for hours at 80+.

The biggest problem on these tranny was that when you suddenly lose your forward gears or that your car seems to have parking brake on even when you don't have parking brake on... that is because a check ball was blown into the tube... they wear and become small enough to go down the valve body and cause wierd symptoms as stated above.

The other problem is loss of reverse but this is two sided problem.

repeat, no other ride in it's class at 80 silky, smooth MPH...ANDS getting better than 25 MPG! These little 183 cubic inch motors are good despite all the bad press...and with the 5 speed automatic, hiway passing is really sweet!!! :p
