Hi there , I' new to this forum And I really need some help , I tried to find some info but I didn't see anything in the archives related to this problem.
Firstly My baby It's an 88' 525i and it has hit the 300.000 Ks. again , I'm saying again because she had this problem when I bough her over a year ago.
The odometer It was stucked in 300.000 K's the rest of the cluster seems to work fine despite some ocsillating speedo and vacuum from time to time , after several queries arround and without atempting in the stealer I found a coding plug at the wreckers that fixed the problem and reseted the Ks' to 285.000 , worked fine up to the time I hit the 300.000 again with the same problem.
Someone told me It's meant to last exactly that which I don't think so , woud this be related to the capacitors ?
Any Idea ?
Thanks
Alex

Some early clusters do this; I've seen it a time or two. The only recourse is to replace the dash module with a newer unit (if possible), or replace the coding plug, as you did previously.

There is a writeup on it here:

Yes, here the direct link

The onluy way to keep the complete record of mileages (I would try it to see the record mielage of my car) is to modify a bit. Someone in Germnay developed an emulator. He developed that based on some long discussions on the German 7 series board, Johan;' involvement (see link above), and Fred, a programming specialist, plus the info from Russia.
He was selling it for about 25 $ only. But he wants to have the original chip sent to him and he makes the modifications and he also does not reveal any secrets how it works, in order to avoid any tricky things with changing of actual mileages.
But Germany is probably too far for you to send it.
