I get lots of folks asking me for this part (used), so I thought I'd share this info with everyone. This is the black plastic sliding strip that goes around the auto shifter shaft in the center console on E34's and E32's (see item #11 on the link above). Looks like Realoem.com shows a price of ~$3.00, so it's certainly cheap enough. Now, if anyone has actually replaced this piece, I'd like to see a brief writeup..... :)

Bret, look at Don Gale's site. He's got a much better solution.

The OEM is too short on my E32, I can see down the console with it in park :S
One question, are the gear numbers and letters supposed to be lighted on the console? Or is it just painted and no light behind it?

They're painted on the early cars, lit on the later cars. Look at that link -- Don has an early 735, as well.

Maybe that will be my first mod, I like looking at my console to see what gear Im in, although the cluster works good too, having both would be nice.

On my website is an even cheaper solution to replace the old strip.

BTW: the ilumination of the console gear shift is only on US models, not on other country spec cars.
On the German board of 7 series some people have developed their own ilumonation systems, but on the original parts catalog you can buy it from the dealer too.

Yeah, I could use that part too. But not on my list of priority parts. Hey Dude, its Davison from Mpls. I was wondering if you had a chance to check on those other trim pieces I was looking for. You said I should send you a reminder if I haven't heard from you for a while. I can't remember if your last name has two t's or one. Anyway I sent my first e-mail to you from work, so I will check for your e-mail address from work tomorrow. Just thought I would try this route. So Dude, I obviously don't know the normal proceedure for getting used parts from you and I hope my request isn't too small. But if I could get those trim pieces, and lights, that would be awesome. I don't know the usual ordering proceedure, and maybe I need to buy an entire trim kit? Or can you get me those pieces individually. I'll send you a check for the pieces and shipping if that's normal proceedure.
Thanks Man, Let me know
