Hey guys
How can I tell if my alternator is faulty? I don't have an electrical tester thingy as I know nothing about electrics, but last night I didn't think I'd make it home from work...
All my electrical appliances seemed to be going very slowly - my heater blower only works on max, but last night it was only at about half normal speed. My windscreen wipers were only going half speed, as were the windows - my stereo wouldn't even work at all - kept turning off and on.
I have had a look at the alternator, and I can turn it with 1 finger. Is this right? I have been suffering from a squeeky belt recently, but wasn't sure which belt it is. I am now thinking maybe the alternator needs adjusting slightly, so the belt can grip it better.
Should the alternator turn freely like this?
Cheers!
Carl
